Crossborder romance sweeps international Indian film awards

Veer-Zaara, a movie about an Indian and a Pakistani who fall in love, took the top prizes at the International Indian Film Academy Awards in Amsterdam on Saturday.

Veer-Zaara won for best film, best director for veteran Bollywood film-maker Yash Chopra, best actor for Shahrukh Khan - who arrived in a white horse-drawn carriage to host the evening, best supporting actress for Rani Mukherji, best musical direction and best story. Mukherji scored a double, also picking up the best actress award for another romantic film, Hum Tum.

The awards, created six years ago, are presented outside India each year to promote Indian films to an international audience. The ceremony drew around 150 of Bollywood’s top actors, as well as 300 producers and directors.

Romance and comedy from Bollywood on Friday

Two films with complex romantic stories and a comedy movie about an Indian cook’s adventures in London are on the offering from Bollywood this Friday. Ready to hit the theatres on September 2 is Aditya Datt’s Aashiq Banaya Aapne and Hriday Shetty’s Pyaar Mein Twist . American romance at the Taj

In a cultural landmark of sorts, a mainstream American theater production will explore the lessons learned in a comic cross-cultural encounter as an American travel writer visits Agra in Tanya Shaffer's play "Baby Taj." The play, produced by TheatreWorks, will run at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts in Mountain View, California.
