Leave your heart in a weekend getaway to the bay

Filed under:

With Memorial Day weekend quickly approaching, Davis students and residents can get out of town and take a weekend trip to the city by the bay.

San Francisco offers a vast variety of restaurants, clubs and breathtaking scenic spots that can be enjoyed by a group of friends or as a romantic getaway.

Drive down the Embarcadero and head over to Fisherman’s Wharf for a plethora of sights, sounds and shops. Despite its touristy reputation, the wharf still promises a good time. Walk around the wharf and enjoy tacky shops that strive to captivate the heart of San Francisco. From the wharf, pick up the infamous cable car and take a ride to the hub of the city.

Next, stroll toward the world-famous Golden Gate Bridge. The area surrounding the bridge boasts amazing views of Alcatraz as well as a small beach cove overlooking one of the city’s many harbors. Above the beach lies a grassy park covered with benches and wildflowers, an ideal location for a picnic with friends or love interests.

A great way to become familiarized with the area is to take an uncharted drive amid the heart of the city. Make sure not to miss Lombard Street, dubbed the world’s “crookedest road.” It also provides great views of the bay, Treasure Island, Coit Tower and the Bay Bridge. Best of all, this self-guided tour is free and allows for quality time with friends and loved ones.

After spending time in the car gazing and at the city’s enormous buildings and legendary sights, head over and park as close as possible to North Beach.
