Malaysia to launch new tourism drive

DOHA: Malaysia is all set to launch a new campaign this summer dubbed “Feel at Home” to attract more number of tourists to the country from the GCC states.

A delegation led by Datuk Ahmed Zahid Hamidi, the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Tourism was in Doha on the last leg of a Gulf tour to introduce the special attractions offered by Malaysia to tourists from the region.

The delegation comprised top officials from Malaysia’s Tourism Promotion Board and representatives from Malaysia Airlines, Malaysia Airports, travel agents, tour operators along with officials from the Ministry of Higher Education. They were also accompanied by cultural dancers, traditional craftsmen, and three reputed Malaysian cheffs.

Malaysian golfers help drive Phuket tourism

PHUKET, May 8, (TNA) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is teaming up with leading tour operators to attract Malaysian golf enthusiasts to the resort island of Phuket, where tourism has been flagging since the December tsunami. Three BP Malaysia EZ cardholders won a nine-day holiday package to Europe in the recent BP Planet Party contest. Housewife Teng Sook Eng, 46, from Kuala Lumpur, engineer Guek Yee Yin, 26, from Johor, and businessman Lim Keng Pin, 48, from Perak, won a tour of London, Amsterdam and Brussels, sponsored by BP Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Ha Noi tourism festival welcomes 3 million visitors

The Ha Noi International Tourism Festival welcomed nearly 3 million visitors during its three days, which ended May 1st, the organising board has said. The figure represented a six-fold increase over that of the previous festival in 2003. During the festival, the Municipal Tourism Service signed co-operation contracts to create new domestic and foreign tours with local partners, such as the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong and the central province of Quang Binh, and with foreign partners in France, Malaysia, Argentina, and China. Sri Lankan Airlines recently launched its dedicated vacations brand titled Sri Lankan Holidays in Mumbai with a multi-pronged objective of driving tourism to Sri Lanka as well as enhance yields on flights to key Far East destinations.
