Queensland's tourism industry is continuing its fight to stop the Federal Government imposing the goods and services tax (GST) on overseas visitors.
The industry is trying to stop a bill being passed through the Senate and will be among the groups taking their case to a public hearing in Brisbane next week.
Daniel Gschwind from the Queensland Tourism Industry Council says the imposition of the tax could turn people away from Australia.
"The demand for a product is always influenced by the price and clearly Australia is a relatively high cost experience for visitors," he said.

The former head of the Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau pleaded guilty Thursday to three charges stemming from allegations he submitted phony expense reports for meals, lodging, limousine rides and visits to strip clubs.
Michael Hollander, 52, of Nesconset, pleaded guilty to defrauding the government and offering a false instrument, both felonies, as well as official misconduct, a misdemeanor, said a spokeswoman for Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota.
Hollander was sentenced by state Supreme Court Judge Robert Doyle to 840 hours of community service and five years probation. He also was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and
China's capital Beijing witnessed the first tourism peak Tuesday in the golden week following the May Day holiday, as soaring numbers of tourists visited sites throughout the city, according to the Beijing Leading Group for Holiday Tourism.
The tourism department said the city's 20 major tourism sites received 594,500 visitors Tuesday, up 29.24 percent from the same period last year.

The Ha Noi International Tourism Festival welcomed nearly 3 million visitors during its three days, which ended May 1st, the organising board has said.
The figure represented a six-fold increase over that of the previous festival in 2003.
During the festival, the Municipal Tourism Service signed co-operation contracts to create new domestic and foreign tours with local partners, such as the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong and the central province of Quang Binh, and with foreign partners in France, Malaysia, Argentina, and China.

UK TOURISM is on the rise with the number of visits by overseas residents up by 12 per cent in the first half of this year, new figures show.
Foreign residents made 6.13 million visits to the UK in the first three months of 2005, the National Statistics Office revealed today.
While the number of American visitors dropped by eight per cent, Western Europeans made 14 per cent more trips to the UK than in January-March 2004.
