Romance with CEO causes trouble for woman’s dream job

Filed under:

I got this job that I thoroughly enjoy. It’s the best one in my 32-year-old life. The CEO, who is divorced, started making advances toward me, and we’ve now been secretly dating for six months. Rumors are starting to spread, and he is pressuring me, for the sake of our romantic future, to quit the position. I love him, but we have not addressed marriage, finances, our 20-year age difference or his two kids. I support myself and don’t have anything to fall back on. Should I sacrifice my job security for love?

Dear Puzzled:

Ths is such a personal decision. You need to make it clear that you have no intention of ditching this job or this relationship. He has no right in pressuring you to quit. If he’s that concerned, maybe he should quit. Just keep it professional. No afternoon rendezvous in the conference room. And I’ve said it before: Be prepared for the uncomfortable awkwardness in the event the relationship goes sour.
