Hawaii’s hotels were the fullest – and the most profitable – in the nation during the first quarter, with more than 84 percent of the rooms occupied.
Hawaii hotels earned an average of $138 per room a night during the quarter, leading all U.S. cities, according to a report released yesterday by Hospitality Advisors LLC.
Spring-break travelers and conventioneers boosted travel to Hawaii in March. Occupancy and average room rates rose on all islands, but luxury and upscale properties led the pack and helped push overall statewide occupancy to a 5.1 percentage point gain, according to Hospitality Advisors.

Approximately 15,000 Israelis will spend the Passover vacation in the Sinai, "but Sinai is not the preferred destination for Israelis this year's holiday," according to travel agents.
The figures have surprised the tourist industry given that it is just six months since 34 people, including 12 Israelis, were killed in a series of blasts on the peninsula.
Last Passover some 30,000 Israelis visited the Sinai. Most of the vacationers this year are Israeli Arabs and young people who have booked the cheap hotels.

Kenyan tourism marketers have predicted a 17 percent increase in tourism revenue this year following a surge in the number of visitors from the United States and Canada.
According to a statement available here Friday, the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) said it is seeking a radical shift from the over-reliance on visitors from the traditional markets of Germany and Britain, and breaking new grounds in China, Russia, eastern Europe and the Middle East.
"The US and Canadian markets have seen tremendous growth in the first quarter of 2005," the KTB said in a report covering the past three months.
