Pure Romance Leads the Way for Female Entrepreneurs

Filed under:

Pure Romance, one of the largest in- home party plan companies in its industry, is proving that women can not only succeed in a male dominated industry – they can even surpass some of their male retail counterparts.

Pure Romance’s 8,000 plus female Consultants are essentially a new breed of business owners. Although they are offered corporate support, they are generally responsible for the ultimate success or failure of their own personal business.

“The world is a different place than it was 20 to 30 years ago,” said Patty Brisben, CEO and Founder of Pure Romance, Inc. “It is becoming less atypical and much more acceptable for women to be their own bosses when it comes to their careers.”

This transformation is best illustrated by the explosive growth of Pure Romance. Since it’s inception in 1993, the company has already gone from a small business run out of the basement of Brisben’s home to a multi-million dollar corporation. Brisben credits much of this growth to her female Consultants who (much like her) took responsibility for their own success in life.

Romance Writers are Passionate About Their Work

You can't mistake a romance novel, with its richly illustrated cover -- usually depicting a beautiful woman and a handsome man in some type of embrace -- and a title that promises passion inside the covers -- Dead on the Dance Floor… Dangerous Affair… Learning Curves… Eye of a Hunter… Kiss and Make Up. But there's more to romance novels than romance; they're a source of entertainment, comfort, even spiritual inspiration. And they're a big part of the global publishing industry, as was easy to see at the 25th annual Romance Writers of America conference last month. Some 2000 mostly female

True tales of romance, from police headquarters

A 35-year-old male will appear in bail court this morning. Just before 2 a.m. this morning City Police attended in the parking lot of the Police Services Building in regards to male and female having a verbal argument. It is alleged that the couple was in a vehicle when they started to argue which resulted in the female pulling into the police station. No physical assault took place but a query of the male revealed that he was on a release document with a curfew of 11 p.m. and also with conditions not to consume alcohol. The male was subsequently

Robbie Williams Confirmed New Romance

Singer Robbie Williams confirmed during an interview that he has been dating a beautiful woman from Los Angeles for the past five months. Williams, who created himself an image of a smooth womanizer, said nobody knew about his romantic relationship because he's not famous in LA. "I've had a relationship in LA for five months that nobody knows about," the singer told hit40uk host Katy Hill. "I've been on about 50-odd dates that nobody knows about because there isn't the network of grasses they have in the UK. They don't know who I am in LA. Or rather, they're not bothered!" Speculation about

Zoo romance isn’t so different from the human kind

As evidenced by the popularity of the new movie "March of the Penguins," we humans find it fascinating when animals hook up. It takes a lot to pack a theater for a documentary, and yet Americans have been captivated by this story of emperor penguins who travel across 70 miles of snow and ice in search of a mate. I recently went to the Philadelphia Zoo for an adults-only "Up Close and Personal" tour to find out more about how animals date, court and mate. Just like people, animals spend much of their lives trying to spend quality time with the opposite

Lovebugs hit drought in romance department

September is the time of year in Florida when an 85-degree wind counts as a cool breeze, when the new school year is well under way and when a certain pest makes its appearance on car windshields and front-end grills. But something has been missing this year. Lovebugs have been a slow-show, if not a complete no-show, for their annual September dating and mating ritual in Brevard County. "My gosh, you're right," said Paul Donnelly, who has lived in Brevard since 1958 and was getting his car washed Friday afternoon. "They should be here. " Donnelly retired as Kennedy Space Center director of operations
